DESCRIPTION:It’s International Beaver Day! What better way to celebrate than learning about our latest restoration project along the east loop trail at Zylstra Lake Preserve. \nEmmerling Creek is a small tributary flowing west into Zylstra Lake. Please bring your questions\, curiosities\, water and snacks! \nSpace is limited; register for this walk with Tanja Williamson at tanjaw@sjclandbank.org or call 360-378-4402. \n*Not familiar with the terms beaver dam analogs and mycoremediation? SUMMARY:Open House Meeting for Three Lopez Island Preserves
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Lopez Center for Community and Arts as we go “LIVE” with proposals for three Lopez Preserves: Spencer Spit\, Richardson Marsh\, and Lopez Hill. \nThis open house is an opportunity to provide input on what objectives are important and what activities should take place over the next ten years.  \nSpencer Spit Preserve is 18 forested acres on the north side of Spencer Spit State Park. This high bank shoreline property is visible from the ferry. A draft Stewardship and Management Plan (SMP) is available now for public comment\, which proposes constructing a 0.5 mile trail and partnering with State Parks for routine management.  Click Here to download draft SMP and learn how to submit comments. \nThe 25-acre Richardson Marsh Preserve features a large rocky outcrop which provides a scenic viewpoint to the marsh. A new SMP will be drafted later this year\, and activities under consideration are: seasonal grazing\, installing fencing\, creating public access via a short trail and overlook\, and constructing a wildlife viewing blind.   \nLopez Hill is the largest of our Land Bank preserves on the island; its 475 acres features diverse habitats and multiple uses. Hikers\, mountain bikers and equestrians share the Preserve’s five miles of trails. The current Stewardship and Management Plan will be updated to include the lease purchase in 2018\, additional acreage purchased in 2021 and proposes a new one mile trail.   \nCan’t make it in person? Click Here to download meeting materials; written comments can be submitted by email to tanjaw@sjclandbank.org.
