DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join other native plant lovers at the Salish Seeds Project nursery on San Juan Island every third Thursday of the month\, April – October.  Tasks vary by the season\, and can include weeding\, seeding\, thinning\, transplanting\, harvesting seed\, spreading woodchips\, pruning\, and watering.  Tools are provided\, but please bring gloves\, water\, and anything else you may need for the morning.  As an added bonus\, volunteers can take home any “orphan” plants on hand. \nThe Salish Seeds Project is a joint program of the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank and the San Juan Preservation Trust. DESCRIPTION:9.23.22 UPDATE: Registration is full. Email tanjaw@sjclandbank.org to join waitlist. \nJoin San Juan stewardship staff for a guided tour highlighting upcoming eco-restoration of Garry oak associated habitat on the west side of Mount Grant Preserve. \nThe project is funded by a USDA Forest Service “Landscape Scale Restoration Grant” (LSR) which was secured by Washington Department of Natural Resources. Partners on the grant include San Juan Islands Conservation District\, Washington State Parks\, San Juan Preservation Trust\, Samish Indian Nation\, Western Washington University\, and Rainshadow Consulting. \nRestoration activities will include thinning encroaching young Douglas fir\, protecting existing high-quality understory and old growth trees\, and propagation of wildflowers\, grasses\, and Garry oak with a focus on plants with cultural significance to Coast Salish peoples. \nIf you are interested in learning more about the “LSR” project\, please RSVP to tanjaw@sjclandbank.org to reserve your spot. DESCRIPTION:The San Juan County Conservation Land Bank and San Juan Preservation Trust are celebrating our newest collaboration together and YOU’RE INVITED! \nPlease join County Council\, and staff and commissioners/directors from both organizations between the hours of 10am to 2pm\, Saturday\, September 24 at the North Shore property on Orcas Island. \nMeander from the upland to the shoreline and learn about the property’s mature forests\, wetlands\, shoreline\, and the tidelands that support eelgrass and forage fish. \n \nDue to limited on-site parking\, the Land Bank has organized a roundtrip shuttle bus from Orcas Island High School to the Preserve. SUMMARY:Fall Great Islands Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Join your fellow islanders for the 2022 Fall Great Islands Clean-up on Saturday\, September 24 between 10am – 2pm. During this event\, participants of all ages can sign-up to collect trash on a designated beach or road\, and then bring their collected trash to the central meeting spot to be counted. \nLopez Island: Lopez volunteers meet at the Lopez Village Park at 10am on Saturday\, September 24th. Drop-off your collected trash at Lopez Solid Waste by 2pm that day. You can sign up for a route ahead of time by contacting Larissa. \nOrcas Island: Orcas volunteers can pick-up grabbers\, gloves\, bags and safety vests starting Monday\, September 19th at The Exchange or at The Village Green the morning of the event. Collected trash can be brought back to The Village Green before 2pm. on Saturday\, September 24th. Signed-up volunteers can join us for a free beer at Island Hoppin’ Brewery starting at 4 p.m. Contact Pete for more information. \nOn San Juan Island\, meet at 10 a.m. at the San Juan Island Brewing Co. parking lot (410 A St.\, Friday Harbor) to pick up trash collection equipment and receive beach and roadway assignments. Coffee and goodies will be provided by Lautenbach Recycling to fuel your efforts (bring your own coffee cup\, please)!  Drop-off your collected trash at the same location by 2pm. There will be an after-party at San Juan Island Brewing Co. with music by T-Flo\, $1 beers for clean-up participants\, and a Stewardship Network of the San Juans raffle. SUMMARY:Volunteer Event - Third Thursdays at Salish Seeds
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join other native plant lovers at the Salish Seeds Project nursery on San Juan Island every third Thursday of the month\, April – October.  Tasks vary by the season\, and can include weeding\, seeding\, thinning\, transplanting\, harvesting seed\, spreading woodchips\, pruning\, and watering.  Tools are provided\, but please bring gloves\, water\, and anything else you may need for the morning.  As an added bonus\, volunteers can take home any “orphan” plants on hand. \nThe Salish Seeds Project is a joint program of the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank and the San Juan Preservation Trust.
