SUMMARY:Volunteer Event - Third Thursdays at Salish Seeds
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join other native plant lovers at the Salish Seeds Project nursery on San Juan Island every third Thursday of the month\, April – October.  Tasks vary by the season\, and can include weeding\, seeding\, thinning\, transplanting\, harvesting seed\, spreading woodchips\, pruning\, and watering.  Tools are provided\, but please bring gloves\, water\, and anything else you may need for the morning.  As an added bonus\, volunteers can take home any “orphan” plants on hand. \nThe Salish Seeds Project is a joint program of the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank and the San Juan Preservation Trust. DESCRIPTION:Join a late afternoon walk with partners WSU Extension Forestry\, San Juan Islands Conservation District and the Conservation Land Bank at Mount Grant Preserve\, to view rocky balds\, savannah woodlands\, and mixed forest habitats. We’ll discuss what these unique habitats are telling us about land use history\, and what future management is needed to support these assemblages. \nIf you would like to learn more about the signatures historic land use has left behind on the San Juan Islands\, come away with some management techniques you can implement on your own land\, or just enjoy an educational walk at your local preserve\, this event is for you. \nClick here to register and for more information. DESCRIPTION:This National Get Outdoors Day we’re celebrating public lands at Westside Preserve! \nCome relish the panoramic views and learn about the Preserve’s prairie ecosystem while clearing invasive Himalayan blackberry along the trails. \nWe’ll meet at the Preserve’s middle pullout at 11am and work until 2pm. Free parking is available at Lime Kiln Point State Park that day\, in addition to the Preserve’s. There will be ample space to spread out as we cut back as many blackberry bushes as possible. Please dress for the weather – long pants are recommended – and bring pruners or loppers\, gloves\, and water.
