Focus will be on higher level classification rather than species level. \nMany lichens require getting on hands and knees to view properly; please wear clothing you’re comfortable getting dirty. Shut off the to-do list and take a step towards better health. \nWhat to Expect:  Andrea Jakus\, a local physical therapist at Peace Island Medical\, will be presenting on the benefits of Nordic walking for healthy individuals\, as well as discuss the benefits Nordic walking can have on breast cancer survivors. Please bring your own pair of Nordic walking poles or general trekking poles if you have them; Andrea will provide Nordic boot tips for walkers to try and take home. \nAndrea will start with a brief talk and demonstration\, followed by a group walk through John O. Linde Community Park and the Land Bank’s new Redtail trail loop. Bring your poles\, compressions sleeves (if you’re a breast cancer survivor with lymphedema)\, comfortable walking or running shoes\, and enthusiasm! Andrea cannot wait to walk with you! \nMeet by the clubhouse at Island Rec’s John O. Linde Community Park. DESCRIPTION:9.5.2024 UPDATE: Cancelled due to lack of participants.  \nJoin Alchemy Art Center for a two-hour painting session at Turtleback Mountain Preserve where participants of all skill levels are invited to connect with nature and create artworks inspired by our Islands’ landscapes. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nGuided Painting: Each session will be led by Maria Michaelson or Glenn Hendrick who will provide step-by-step guidance. Meet up and introductions will take place between 9am and 9:15am\, and then move to the painting location (from the parking area) at 9:15. The class will have a hard start time\, at the painting location\, at 9:30am.\nInstruction: Maria will lead a short centering meditation\, after which\, Glenn will share some techniques\, concepts\, and demos for anyone who is interested\, along with further resources for plein air painting. Technical support will be offered to participants of all levels throughout the painting time.
