The first three months of 2025 have flown by at the speed of a Hummingbird’s wings, with staff working at a similar pace. In the last 90+ days, over 5,000 native trees and shrubs were planted across three preserves, forest health work continued, including thinning and pile burnings within Garry Oak woodland/savannahs, and plenty of winter storm clean up – from clearing fallen trees off trail to dragging a huge roll of plastic from Watmough Bay to the parking lot for removal.

Community volunteers contributed to the whirr of activity as well. Youth and adults alike benefitted from local birding specialists sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm in support of February’s Great Backyard Bird Count events and art on the preserves flourished with free workshops hosted by Alchemy Art Center.
