Lord of the Rings – Ancient Oak Dendrochronology with David Jordon

Dr. David Jordon studies forests, particularly the Garry oak (Quercus garryana) forests that occur from Southern Vancouver Island to Northern California. He uses the analysis of tree rings not only to age old growth oaks, but also to reconstruct a time-line of events that have impacted their long lives.

Walking with David among the oak forest areas of Turtleback Mountain Preserve will provide an opportunity to learn about the science of dendrochronology, the natural history of our local oak woodlands, and the status of the Land Bank’s oak woodland restoration project.

Easy to moderate walking with some elevation gain. Close-toed shoes recommended.
