Eliza Habegger, nursery manager for The Salish Seeds Project, is into her second year of the lawn-to-meadow conversion at the Land Bank’s San Juan Island office and the wildflower meadow along the south side of the office was bursting with color by mid-April, with grasses filling in closer to June. Eliza is now planning for fall seed sowing in a larger demonstration area within Driggs Park that will be easily accessible for the public to enjoy. And she’s putting the finishing touches on an illustrated “how to” guide on growing native wildflowers in the San Juan Islands. This free resource will be ready for public distribution at Eliza’s August 18th “Growing Native Wildflowers” presentation in the Green Village during the San Juan County Fair – be sure to save the date!
