Tall green tress in a green pastureSummer is here! After this seemingly endless “Juneuary” it seemed like it might never happen, but alas even with the chaos around us, some things remain undeniable.

Grass has asserted itself as a force to be reckoned with this year with perfect growing conditions leading to an overwhelming green wave. Stewardship staff and volunteers have been up to the task, fortunately, and the Preserves are as beautiful and accessible as ever.

And there is a lot more. On Orcas we are set to close on an amazing property near Eastsound. With a beach out of a geological textbook, high feeder bluffs spilling their sand to go wherever it may, this is a wild place interwoven with the sea.  Stretch of shoreline with bluff in distance

For decades it has welcomed people as Glenwood Inn, and now is ready for a new chapter as a north shore preserve.

We’ve got a phenomenal amount of work to do, taking away the cabins and the Inn (main building), but it will all be worth it as nature retakes the place. While it will remain closed to public access for a good while, be on the lookout for guided tours to view this new gem. We close on the solstice.

Otherwise, outside will be the best place to be for sure. We have 29 Preserves beckoning; how many have you been to?
