The summer flew by with a smorgasbord of activities: applying for grants, creating new trailheads (and trails!), working on management plans, leading guided walks on newly acquired properties, meeting people at the islands’ farmer’s markets, and rallying amazing volunteers.
And now fall is upon us which, for many islanders, is the best time of year. The crowds have thinned a bit and our days haven’t shortened that much (yet!). We’re taking advantage of the this transition time to host an open house on Orcas at the new North Shore Preserve (formerly Glenwood Inn) on Saturday September 24th and all are welcome!
We’re also hosting crews from REI and various conservation corps to work on the Preserves, directing contractors on critical projects, including larger forest resiliency efforts, and just generally getting stuff done.
For all of you, get those rooves done! Get the garden produce into the freezer! You still have time for that, and, equally as important, enjoy the glory of our fall. Pick a Preserve and take a walk with a friend, and, as always let us know what you think.
