As winter settles in on the islands, with its characteristic wind and rain, it’s easy to forget some of the more remarkable events accompanying the transition – such as Trumpeter swans on our lakes and ponds or the intermittent light at day’s end when the elusive sun slants in and turns everything golden.

At the Land Bank we are immensely grateful for the renewed funding provided by the County’s voters by a wide margin. Numerous volunteers across the islands supported the campaign with their time and enthusiasm for conservation. Their faith in our ability to conserve the special places of the islands and take care of our local landscapes, wildlife and resources that nourish us all is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For me, it was an incredible experience to get out into the community to answer questions and showcase all that we and our volunteers have accomplished since the last vote. I encourage the questions to keep coming!  And of course, the Land Bank welcomes your ideas for new ways we can benefit the community and our natural world.

Rest assured we won’t be hibernating, but rather will be making plans and ticking projects off our long list.  We hope to see you out there!
