In November, Land Bank staff welcomed Tyler Goodman to our Orcas based crew and in December said goodbye to outgoing commissioners Sandi Friel (District 2, position 2) and Christa Campbell (at large, position 7).

Tyler disposes of buried tires found at North Shore on Orcas Island

Tyler comes to the Land Bank with a deep passion for the intersection of scientific research and recreation on public lands. His formative years were spent equally among the Channel Islands and mountain ranges of Southern California where he saw the value of quiet moments away from city life. Moving to Washington in 2010, Tyler quickly adopted the NW lifestyle and shifted his love for the outdoors and fly fishing onto trails of the Cascade Range. He attended the University of Washington and earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies, focused on invasive plant species management. View Tyler’s full bio here.

Sandi and Ag Coordinator, Charlie Behnke, at Coffelt Farm Preserve

Sandi joined the Land Bank Commission in 2018 and Christa in 2014. Over their tenure both held the position of chair (Christa twice in 9 years) and helped shape projects such as the North Shore property acquisition on Orcas, Channel Preserve and Watmough Preserve Addition on Lopez, and Mount Grant Preserve on San Juan Island.

It is with much gratitude that we thank Sandi and Christa for their exceptional dedication and commitment to conservation. Their enthusiasm and tireless efforts as volunteer commissioners made, and will continue to, have an incredible impact in our community.
