Roadside fuel reduction work will begin this week as part of ongoing Turtleback Mountain Preserve forest management demonstration projects. Described during a December 15th presentation by the Conservation Land Bank, San Juan Islands Conservation District and Rain Shadow Consulting, this phase of work demonstrates establishment of a ‘shaded fuel break’ – a carefully planned reduction of dense trees and brush that extends on the side of the roads.
The trail will remain open and the area posted while work is under way for the next several days.
