Eliza Habegger, nursery manager for The Salish Seeds Project, receives multiple requests annually regarding wildflower meadows, inspiring her to create the resource I want to seed a wildflower meadow to help the home gardener. And taking it a step further, she followed her own advice to create a native habitat at home.
”to experiment with a small patch before tackling a large area. Every site is different, and you’ll learn a lot from a year or more of experimentation, perfecting your “recipe” for meadow creation.”
More than a year ago Eliza started a lawn-to-meadow conversion along the south side of the Land Bank’s San Juan Island office. Her patience and planning paid off as the demonstration area was bursting with native wildflowers this past May, where Eliza led two “Lawn Be Gone” workshops detailing her process. The restoration has been such a success, she’s planning to expand the demonstration area into Driggs Park. Stay tuned!
