There are many signs of summer upon us in the Islands. The successive patterns of life take us from the arrival of swallows in the spring, to their nesting and fledging. The wildflowers have progressed to fully blooming ocean spray and bright red elderberries.

Or, dust becomes an outdoor verb, as in a note I once got from a neighbor who drove by a little too fast, “sorry I dusted you.”

We are making plenty of dust of our own at the Conservation Land Bank, feverishly working to put in trails and culvert some of our forest roads. The explosion of stewardship projects across the islands means summer – our time to get things done before the sun gives way to rain so many months down the road.

In your downtime, I invite you to enjoy this season on any one of our 29 Preserves open to you – every vista and quiet glen, beaches and trails and towering trees – all there, all intrinsically important, but which can add so much to our quality of life.

Hope to see you out there!
